Francesca BOCCAFOSCHI: Curriculum vitae

Francesca Boccafoschi was born at Trieste (Italy). She currently holds a permanent position as Assistant Professor (since December 2008) at the Health Sciences Department of the University of Piemonte Orientale in Novara, Italy. She graduated in Biological Sciences in July 2001. She was awarded the PhD in Molecular Medicine at the University of Piemonte Orientale on April 2008 (thesis title: “The biological response to mechanical stretching in dynamic cell culture”). During the PhD fellowship, she attended (October 2003August 2005) the Laboratory for Biomaterials and Bioengineering of Laval University, Quebec City (Canada). She actively collaborates with Italian (Politecnico di Torino, Politecnico di Milano, CNR Bari, University of Trieste) and foreign Universities (Laval University, Quebec City, Canada).

The main research activities are in the field of vascular tissue engineering and in biomaterials, mainly for vascular uses. Of particular interest is the role of mechanical stresses (shear and stretching stresses) on cell adhesion, survival and differentiation through vascular cell phenotype expression. Since 2008 she supervised several theses, both in the Bachelor and Master of Science degrees and she supervised also scientific activities and thesis of PhD students.

She in the Editorial Board of: The ScientificWorldJournal (Tissue Engineering), Archivio Italiano di Andrologia e Urologia (Anatomical Sciences), ISRN Biomedical Engineering. She is referee for international journals such as Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Cell Adhesion and Migration, Journal of Biomedical Materials Research part A, Biointerphases.
